FOPAC EVENTS The
Friends of the Performing Arts in Concord is the umbrella organization
for The Concord Players, The Concord Orchestra, and The Concord Band,
and operates, maintains and schedules events in the theatre building at
51 Walden in Concord. FOPAC is directed by a board consisting of
representatives from each of the three sponsoring organizations, and
includes an Executive Director, Carole Wayland, who handles the day to
day affairs of FOPAC.       On December 18, FOPAC will sponsor a fund-raising performance of Amahl and the Night Visitors,
with members of the Concord Orchestra directed by Alan Yost, music
direction by Robin Farnsley, and stage direction by Robert Runck. In
addition to Amahl, there will be a performance of a medieval mystery play, The Second Shepherd's Play, adapted and directed by Robert Runck.       In the spring, to celebrate its 40th year of incorporation, FOPAC will present Puccini's La Bohème
on June 9 and 10, 2012. This fully staged performance, a collaboration
of members of The Concord Band, The Concord Orchestra, and The Concord
Players, along with other friends of 51 Walden, will be performed in
Italian, with surtitles. The opera will be conducted by Alan Yost. Kathy
Lague will be stage director and Paula Eldridge will be the chorus
master.
CENTENNIAL OF ORCHARD HOUSE AND DECENNIAL OF LITTLE WOMEN Purchased
by the Louisa May Alcott Memorial Association in 1911, Orchard House,
the Concord home of the Alcott family, opened as a museum in 1912. It is
now engaged in a year-long centennial celebration, which will culminate
in another event, The Concord Players decennial production of Little Women,
a dramatization drawn from the novel by the founder of The Concord
Players. A tradition that began in 1932, the centennial of Louisa May
Alcott's birth, the production has gone up every 10 years since then,
except in 1942, a war year.

THE DROWSY CHAPERONE OPENS FRIDAY! Imagine
this: you're sitting in a theatre, the lights dim, the first character
walks on stage and declares: "I hate theatre." Welcome to The Drowsy Chaperone,
presented by The Concord Players, opening Friday, Nov. 4. It turns out
that the character, simply known as The Man in the Chair, does love
musical comedy from the Golden Age of the late 1920-1930s. And because
he's feeling blue, he turns to his favorite (fictional) show from that
era, The Drowsy Chaperone. As he listens, the musical scenes
from that show literally burst through the walls of his apartment,
giving him (and the audience) an up-close-and-personal encounter with
memorable music, foot-stomping dance, rollicking comedy, and a joyous
good time.          "I knew I
wanted to direct this show some day," says director Donnie Baillargeon,
"and Concord is probably the one community theatre in the region that
could pull it off."
Another first for this show is the introduction of a new assistive
listening system. If you wish to try out a pair of headphones, you can
do so in the lobby before the show!
GALA OPENING NIGHT FOR THE DROWSY CHAPERONE On
Friday, for opening night ticket holders, The Concord Players is
holding a party, beginning at 7 p.m. before the 8 p.m. curtain.
Following the theme of the show, we will present a 1928-style wedding
reception, complete with Prohibition champagne punch, Mrs. Tottendale's
Teetotaller Punch, and hors d'oeuvres made by five mom and
daughter teams from the National Charity League. We'll add to the
menu Wedding Cake, a "Toledo Surprise" delicious dessert, and elegant
pastries for your pleasure.        These
opening night galas have become real reunions for Players actors and
crews, and we will be introducing Donnie Baillargeon, director of the
show, to attendees. Tickets can be purchased at our website www.concordplayers.org See you there!!
REMEMBER: AUDITIONS FOR THE WINTER SHOW COMING UP! Auditions will be held for the Players' February production, Amateurs,

20th at 7 pm. Rehearsals will be Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday
evenings, and possibly some Friday evenings. Performance dates are Feb.
10, 11, 17, 18, 19, 24, and 25, 2012.
